1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. If you see the Pick a category view, click User Accounts.

Note If you do not see the Pick a category view, go to step 3.

3. Double-click Mail.

4. Click E-mail Accounts, and then click New. 

5. Click Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, and then click Next.

6. Click to select the Manually configure server settings or additional server types check box, and then click Next.

7. Click Internet E-mail, and then click Next.

8. Add the following account settings:

a. In the Your Name box, type your name as you want it to appear to recipients.

b. In the E-mail Address box, type your e-mail address.

For example, type username@msn.com.

c. In Account Type, select POP3.

d. In the Incoming Mail Server box, type pop3.email.msn.com.

e. In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) box, type smtp.email.msn.com.

f. In the User Name box, type your MSN account name.

g. In the Password box, type your MSN password.

h. Click to select the Remember Password check box.

i. Click to select the Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box.

 9. Click Next, and then click Finish. 

You can now send and receive MSN POP3 messages.

 

Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and earlier versions of Outlook

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Mail icon.

3. Click E-mail Accounts.

4. Click to select Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.

5. Click to select POP3, and then click Next.

6. Type the following setting information:

a. In the Your Name box: type you name as you want it to appear to recipients.

b. In the Incoming Mail Server (POP3) box: type pop3.email.msn.com.

c. In the E-mail Address box: type your e-mail address.

For example: “username@msn.com”.

d. In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) box: type smtp.email.msn.com.

e. In the User Name box, type your MSN account name.

f. Click to check the Remember Password checkbox.

g. In the Password box, type your MSN password.

h. Click to check the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) checkbox.

7. Click More Settings.

8. On the Outgoing Server tab, click to select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box.

9. Click to select Use same settings as my incoming mail server, and then click OK.

10. Click Next, and then click Finish.  

You can now send and receive MSN POP3 messages.

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

First using a password with the real name or pet name of a user should be avoided. Moreover avoid passwords on information that can found with a bit of research on you, such as your wife’s name, child’s name, type of car you own, a phone number or vehicle license tag, your address, a parent’s name, your date of birth, etc.

A common method used by hackers to break a password is the dictionary method of attack. This method uses a dictionary in any language to try large numbers of words to see if an actual word is in the password. Reversed words, frequent misspellings and look-alike letter replacements are also checked.

One solution that is popular is to use a sentence that is easy to recall and use the first letter of each word in the sentence for the password. Using this method, ”Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away” translates into the password “pdntspa”

To make it more complex, mix in some upper case letters and maybe “P” for Please. Add a date make the final password “Pdntspa1999″. It looks complicated but it is easy to recall the year, and the sentence.

Since a great many passwords are case sensitive, the use of upper case letters greatly increases the difficulty of breaking such a password. Symbols can be used with some systems, so using an easy to remember question mark and a dollar sign will make the password “Anwy?ccdfy$1961″ makes it an even better password.

A change like this adds length to the password, making it far more difficult for a hacker to break. A password should be a minimum of eight characters but fourteen or more, like the example above, is best.

To enhance the security of your passwords, you should:Use a separate password for each program or application, don’t use a common password for all.Keep all passwords private, don’t share them with anyone who doesn’t really need to know. Every three or four months, change your passwords. So not use your passwords on shared computers such as in a public library or cyber cafe as there could be keystroke software installed.

If someone says they are from your bank or some such place and asks for your password, do not give it.

Banks and other similar places will never ask for your PIN or password.
